Taper your training soon!
With only five weeks to go until race day,
you should be wrapping up your marathon or
half marathon training. Take a moment and
check your progress against the schedule you
are using. Make any necessary adjustments
but if you are a little behind schedule, do
not try to catch up by increasing your
workouts by any more than 10% a week. This
can only lead to injury.

Bart Yasso, Runner's World's Chief Running Officer comes to Maui
|
|
Bart to share his running adventures spanning 25+ years
Bart Yasso, Runner's World's Chief
Running Officer, was at the Maui Marathon in
2004 and was so impressed with the drop-dead
gorgeous course that the Maui Marathon was
named the "Pick" for "Run in Paradise" in the
January 2007 issue of Runner's World
Magazine.
Bart is certainly someone who has earned
his professional title. He has finished over
150 marathons and five Ironman triathlons and
traveled to marathon in locales as farfetched
as Antarctica and Africa.
Join Bart on Saturday, September 15 at The
Westin Maui (exact time and room will be
posted at the Expo) for Bart's Marathon of
Travel Tales -- From The Mount Everest
Marathon to the Mount Kilimanjaro
Marathon. Join him for an entertaining
first-hand account of a slide show of some of
marathoning's greatest adventures.
Bart is going to be out and about during the
entire race weekend with a video camera
capturing fun scenes for the "Day at the
Races" online video on www.runnersworld.com.
Don't blink when he dashes through the Front
Street Mile in Lahaina on Saturday afternoon!

The Hana Relay
|
|
Another Classic VIRR Event
The 36th Annual Hana Relay takes place on
September 8th, 2007. A maximum of 125 teams
with 6 runners each will leave from Kahului,
Maui in 6 waves. Teams will run along the
famous Hana Highway crossing 54 bridges and
617 curves.
Runners will be greeted in the morning by
the sunrise over Haleakala, the world's
largest dormant volcano. As runners make
their way to Hana town, they will experience
the heat of the Hawaiian sun and tropical
downpours, both within a five minute span.
They will run by waterfalls, through rain
forests and along steep sea cliffs as part
of the relay magic. Runners will be treated
to live music, food and drinks at the finish
line and will be able to take a dip in the
ocean before the awards ceremony.
.
The most prized award is
always given to the most spirited team.
Teams will dress up in costumes and decorate
their rented vans. Hana Relay is more of a
moving party than a race.
